Welcome to SurveyTale! This guide walks you through everything you need to go from a brand-new account to your first survey collecting responses. Follow the steps below in order, and you'll have a live survey shared with your audience in just a few minutes.
1. Create your account and workspace
The first step is setting up your SurveyTale account. Your account lives inside a workspace, which is the home for your surveys, responses, and team members.
- Go to the SurveyTale sign-up page and register with your email address (or a supported single sign-on option).
- Confirm your email if prompted, then sign in.
- When you log in for the first time, SurveyTale creates a workspace for you automatically. You can rename it or create additional workspaces later from your workspace settings.
Tip: A workspace is also where you'll invite teammates and manage your plan, so it's worth giving it a clear, recognizable name.
2. Build your first survey
Once you're inside your workspace, you can create a survey in one of two ways: start from a ready-made template or build from scratch.
Option A: Start from a template
Templates are the fastest way to get going. They come with pre-built questions designed for common use cases such as customer satisfaction, product feedback, event registration, and more.
- From your workspace, click to create a new survey.
- Browse the template library and pick one that fits your goal.
- The template opens in the survey editor, ready for you to customize.
Option B: Build from scratch
If you want full control, start with a blank survey and add your own questions.
- Create a new survey and choose the blank/start-from-scratch option.
- Add questions one at a time, choosing the question type that fits (for example, multiple choice, rating, open text, or yes/no).
- Edit the question text, set whether each question is required, and reorder questions by dragging them.
Customize the look and flow
Regardless of how you started, you can refine your survey in the editor:
- Content: Add, edit, remove, or reorder questions.
- Logic: Where supported, use conditional logic to show or skip questions based on previous answers.
- Design: Adjust colors, styling, and branding so the survey matches your look and feel.
- Welcome and ending screens: Set the intro message respondents see first and the thank-you screen they see after submitting.
Use the preview option to experience the survey exactly as your respondents will before you publish it.
3. Choose how your survey is delivered
SurveyTale supports several survey types, depending on where and how you want to reach people. Pick the one that matches your goal:
- Link surveys: A standalone survey with its own shareable URL. This is the most flexible option — send the link by email, post it on social media, add it to a newsletter, or include it anywhere you can paste a link.
- Website surveys: Surveys that appear directly on your website, typically shown to visitors as they browse. These are useful for capturing in-context feedback from people already engaging with your site.
- App surveys: Surveys triggered inside your own application, letting you ask users questions at relevant moments in their experience.
For website and app surveys, you'll generally connect SurveyTale to your site or product so the survey can be displayed and triggered in the right place. Link surveys require no setup beyond sharing the URL.
4. Publish and share your survey
When your survey is ready, publish it to make it live. After publishing:
- For a link survey, copy the survey's unique URL and share it with your audience however you like.
- For a website or app survey, follow the provided instructions to embed or connect the survey to your site or application.
- Test it yourself first by opening the link (or visiting your site) and submitting a sample response to confirm everything works end to end.
Tip: Submitting a test response is a great way to confirm your survey is collecting data correctly before you send it out widely.
5. See where your responses go
Every time someone completes your survey, their answers are collected automatically inside SurveyTale. To view them:
- Open the survey from your workspace.
- Go to the survey's results or responses area.
- Review answers in a summary view that aggregates results across all respondents, or drill into individual responses one at a time.
From there you can filter responses, and on supported plans export your data or share results with others. Your responses update in real time as new submissions come in.
Next steps
You now have the full first-run flow: account and workspace set up, a survey built, a delivery type chosen, your survey shared, and a place to read the results. From here, you may want to explore:
- Viewing & analyzing responses — dig deeper into the summary view, filtering, and exporting your data.
- Managing contacts & audiences — organize the people who receive and respond to your surveys.
- Plans & billing — understand what's included on your plan and how to unlock more features.
